Do I have to give up all my favorite foods?Fortunately, your hypertension diet doesn't require you to give up all your favorites. At most, you may need to severely limit them if you are on a steady diet of foods harmful to maintaining normal blood pressure. If I limit the harmful foods I like and eat beneficial foods, will my blood pressure go down?Choosing the right food is your first line of attack. So, get ready to fill your hypertension diet with great foods, which when you adopt them, will lower your blood pressure. Maybe weeks will pass until you see a benefit, but it will come. Before we get into types of food, I want to give you one small tip - If you crave a particular food, that food may not be good for you. What foods should I eat and not eat?First, let's break food down into three types: harmful, neutral, and beneficial. Harmful foods are those that can cause higher than normal blood pressure. Think fatty, salty, sugary and overly processed foods. They are not heart healthy foods. So, shun fatty meats and dairy products. Let's not gorge on salty or sugary stuff. And, we'll stuff our canned meats, soups, sauces and condiments in the donation bag and put it on the door step. Neutral foods are not foods to lower blood pressure, although they won't raise it either. Okay, we can munch on casseroles, mashed potatoes and gravy, popcorn, small amounts of certain desserts, moderate amounts of alcohol, certain juices and many more foods without much care. Just don't eat too much. Gaining weight is not a good idea because it can increase blood pressure. Beneficial foods lower blood pressure. Yea, let's put some of these in our normal blood pressure diet. These heart healthy foods contain factors that our bodies need like minerals, phytonutrients, unsaturated oils and biochemicals that clean and tone the blood vessels and heart. Sound too easy? It is a little because -
Some foods may benefit some of us, but not all of us.

How could this be? Well, certain foods that lower blood pressure for some might not work for others due to their different body chemistry. The theory behind the Blood Type Diet gives us a clue why this is so. The theory states that a food that's beneficial for one blood type might not be so for another blood type.
